DNS servers were queried until the authoritative server for the domain was found. In this case, the authoritative name servers were operated by Cloudflare. Using these name servers, the reverse DNS FQDN resolved to two IP addresses. Both IP addresses belonged to Cloudflare’s edge network, which hides the actual host of—in this case—the malicious content. Although reverse DNS domains aren’t supposed to work like this, the threat actors found a way to make it happen.
