Daron Hall is the antithesis of the stereotypical Southern sheriff: he doesn’t like guns and it’s nearly impossible to find a photograph of him in uniform. He prefers to present his six-foot-four frame—he was a kicker on his college football team—in well-tailored suits. With his open, often smiling face, white goatee, receding hairline, and glasses, Hall looks more like a politician than a sheriff.
